Pedetontus cf. submutans sp. BOLD:ACJ4257
This Molecular Operational Taxonomic Unit represented by BOLD BIN BOLD:ACJ4257 may or may not be by synonymous with Pedetontus submutans. Its COI sequence has a similarity of 8.99% (p-dist) to its nearest neighbor BIN, BOLD:AAV1528. The single specimen differs morphologically from a similar specimen from southeast Alaska.
This entity, currently represented by a single specimen, is similar to and may be Pedetontus submutans. Compared to members of BIN BOLD:AAV1528, which are also similar to P. submutans and may be that species, this entity has distinctly yellow coxal styli. Compared specimens of subgenus Verhoeffilis from southeast Alaska, the single specimen of this entity has a few setae between and above the lateral ocelli on the face just below the compound eyes; these setae are absent on the Alaskan specmien. Also, the coxal styli on the Alaskan specimen are pale, not yellow as in this specimen.
